Hong-Kai XIONG is a Distinguished Professor in both Dept. Electronic Engineering and Dept. Computer Science and Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). Currently, he acts as the Vice Dean of Zhiyuan College in SJTU. His research interests mainly focus on multimedia signal processing, image and video coding, multimedia communication and networking, computer vision, biomedical informatics, machine learning.
Since he received his Ph.D. degree from SJTU in 2003, he has been with Department of Electronic Engineering in SJTU. During 2007-2008, he was a research scholar in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). From 2011 to 2012, he was a scientist with the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He received 2017 the Science and Technology Innovative Leader Talent Award in Ten Thousand Talents Program, 2016 Yangtze River Scholar Distinguished Professor Award from Ministry of Education, China, 2014 National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholar Award from Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), 2017 Shanghai Academic Research Leader Talent Award, 2014 Shanghai Youth Science and Technology Talent Award, 2013 Shanghai Shu Guang Scholar Award, 2017 Baosteel Excellent Faculty Award, 2009 New Century Excellent Talent Award from Ministry of Education of China, 2010 and 2013 SJTU SMC-A Excellent Young Faculty Awards. He has been granted 2017 and 2011 First Prizes of the Shanghai Technology Innovation Award for research achievements on Network-oriented Video Processing and Dissemination.
Dr. XIONG published over 200 refereed journal and conference papers. His research projects are funded by Natural Science Foundation of China, QUALCOMM, MICROSOFT, and INTEL. He was the recipient of the Top 10% Paper Award at the 2016 IEEE Visual Communication and Image Processing (IEEE VCIP’16), the Best Student Paper Award at the 2014 IEEE Visual Communication and Image Processing (IEEE VCIP’14), the Best Paper Award at the 2013 IEEE International Symposium on Broadband Multimedia Systems and Broadcasting (IEEE BMSB’13), and the Top 10% Paper Award at the 2011 IEEE International Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing (IEEE MMSP’11). He served as area chair in Technical program committee of ICIP and ISCAS, and TPC members for prestigious conferences such as ACM Multimedia, ICME, and ICASSP. He is the associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT). He is a senior member of the IEEE since 2010.
